About

Breeding… there are people who do it for a living and do it well  —  and then there are people who call themselves breeders.

About Me

I am not a member of PETA

I own horses.  They live on my property.  I take care of them myself.

I compost their manure.

I have been around and/or worked with horses for 30+ years.

I do eat meat.  I try to eat as little as possible.

I try to buy local (no matter what it is).  It reduces my carbon footprint, and you’re more likely to get better, healthier food.

I compost leftover food.

I am not a member of PETA.  Yes I know I repeated myself.

I believe we can own pets, and keep them – as long as we’re responsible for them (including feeding, veterinary care, proper inoculations, and when it comes to dogs and cats in particular – spaying and neutering them all – when it comes to horses – gelding all colts unless they are of extremely good bloodlines and an exemplary example of the breed).

I do not think all animals should be “set free”.

Need I go on?

I board my two equines – they are provided for in my will and my two adult children and lawyer KNOW this.

I believe the definition of livestock no longer applies to horses/equines – they are both service and companion animals – just can’t live in the house like dogs and cats can.

I thank you for writing what a lot of us are thinking – I think, correct me if I am wrong, that you will appreciate this You Tube: short excerpt from the video “Life Is Worth Losing” (2005) – George Carlin ~ The American Dream – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acLW1vFO-2Q

    Hi,

Thank You for loving these beautiful creatures! & for giving & showing effort caring about their welfare. I Love Horses Too :).
It breaks my heart for what horses have gone through with this whole slaughter existence. I wish it away & can’t believe up until 2007, our horses were slaughtered in our country. There needs to be an immediate end to transporting them from here to be slaughtered in mexico & canada. (It must be a $ maker for who is letting that be> Heartless!)
Also, Shame on France, Belgium, Brussels, Milan & Japan (only whoever is part of the heartless horse meat consumption!)

Everyone nationwide has to become involved in ending that heinous crime against the humanity of horses.

Good Luck getting unlimited followers & may all of us animal lovers succeed in saving horses & their fellow Animals, SeaLife & WildLife & our Planet.

I just came across this website regarding Fireside Manor Arabians. I recently moved and being another very rural location took awhile to get internet. Does anybody know if she still has Rafeeki (long time ago so not sure I spelled his name right). GreySE/Polish cross. I did not have time to read much of the comments. I purchased his mother and 2 sisters plus another polish mare from Cheryl several years ago. Now I only have SE’s, including my stallion Jaybec (sired by Patrick Swayze’s favourite stallion). I would hate to think of Rafeeki going for meat at that auction. I no longer have any of the horses I purchased from her but I did my best to see that they went to good homes. Breaks my heart to see horses starving like that, emaciated to the point their bodies are using muscle tissue to survive. Does she still have her black stallion? This is very sad, and yes, upsetting. They do still go for meat here in Ontario and I have personally seen the “meat market” buyers at the auctions in the area. I could say quite a bit from personal knowledge, but don’t want to. I would like to do anything I can to save any remaining horses so if anyone has any concrete details please email me at: julieashton@xplornet.ca
